TEST DRIVE MEME #2
Welcome to the Library
Those who are new awake in the stacks.
You’re not sure when you fell asleep, and the memories of the last things you were doing are hazy at best. But now you’re here, and all you can see is books in every direction, the bookshelves teetering high enough above you to reach to the sky.
A helpful sign points you in the direction of the main circulation desk, and even if you try to ignore it and go in any other direction, the desk is where you will find yourself. A figure sits behind the desk, not even looking up as they sort through books and other media; they look, to your character, to be the exact picture of what they expect a Librarian to be.
Trying to ask the Librarian a question will get them shushed, but they’ll point down a hallway to the side, leading to a kitchenette and what appears to be a dorm room, where they’ll find they’re not alone in this strange place. But once they’ve looked away, when they look back, the Librarian is gone.
The Lobby
Those who are already familiar with the Library will see the Lobby change for the second time. It’s not paper plate UFOs and metal walls this time. Instead there are cheerful garlands strung about, and a stack of books shaped into a Christmas tree taking pride of place. The Help Desk is closed, the ‘Back in 5’ sign once again a bald-faced lie, but there is a menorah sat behind in the window, conveniently just out of reach of anyone who tries to get it. The candles are lit in a… somewhat sporadic fashion, the correct order but with no rhyme or reason to what ‘night’ is being represented. Either time is strange here, whoever’s in charge of it doesn’t know what day it is either, or they simply don’t care. Or some mix of the three.
Those two particular winter holidays are not the only ones represented either; characters will find a smattering of decorations or festive accessories from a great number of holidays, from their own worlds and beyond. There is what looks like a cabinet with instructions to pick your fortune from one of the many drawers. For some reason, there are a number of what looks like a child’s toy ponies placed on and around the cabinet. There are also some posters declaring in bold, decidedly upsetting typeset: “THE GOD-EMPEROR WISHES YOU A FESTIVE SANGUINALIA!” complete with a picture of a certain Library resident in all his feathered, shining glory. (The poster is not remotely shiny, but there are helpful accent lines to show that he should be shining.) And, for some reason, there is also a giant straw goat in the garden now, surrounded by festive strings of lights. Please do not set it on fire.
The Kitchens
It seems the decorations are not the only thing in the holiday spirit. The kitchens, usually bereft of anything but the most basic foodstuffs, are now full to the brim with a variety of holiday foods. There is always a tureen with hot mulled wine and a try of sweet pastries near by it, there’s ham and latkes in the fridge to be heated up, jelly doughnuts, moon cakes, pies, and an assortment of other delicious things. If your character would expect to find a certain thing within the stash, they do, regardless of how niche it may be. Christmas chili? Of course there’s christmas chili!
Oh, and that mulled wine isn’t the only alcohol around either- champagne, sake, hard cider… again, anything anyone might expect to find. Just try not to overdo it too much, alright? Everyone still has to sleep in the same room, and the Assistants aren’t going to show up to hold your hair back.
Crafts and More
What good are holidays without crafts? The Maker’s Space has been specially supplied with anything you might need to make your festive crafts- this includes everything you’d need for a gingerbread construction! (You’d think this would be in the kitchen, but don’t kid yourself- those things are not for eating.) There’s strips of colorful paper rings and instructions on how to make your own, little things of clay and paint and directions on how to craft your own dreidel, ’stained glass’ paper lanterns, and more. Oh, and glitter. Obviously there is a lot of glitter available.
There are also snow globe kits, mostly generic winter themes- trees, presents, and the like. Strangely enough, however, when they’re complete and shaken, they’ll show a memory from the person who shook it- a memory of a holiday, or snow, or generally something that invokes the feeling of the season- light, and hope, and togetherness. It’s fragmented, almost stop-motion in between the falling bits of ‘snow,’ but once it has settled the normal, basic scene inside returns.

And she seems to be...pointing at him? Has she made the bubble?
Then the bubble starts to drop, and Link instinctively brings up his paraglider again. Though it might not be as useful as he's used to, if it doesn't allow him to glide out.
no subject
She spots the young man readying his kite again, and quickly dispels the light barrier around him with a hurried flick of her wrists, trusting that he'll be able to land softly on the ground.
"Are you alright, sir?" Alia cups her hand next to her mouth as she looks up at Link. She's not used to shouting, but tries to project her voice.
no subject
And now he's right next to her, so she doesn't need to shout. He gives her a little nod. Yes, he's fine.
"Hi," he says.
no subject
"That was amazing, sir. Where did you learn how to do that? And what is this kite you've fashioned?"
She leans forward slightly to take a closer look at the paraglider, while still taking care to maintain a polite distance between them.
no subject
The second question he's much more definitive about.
"Paraglider," he says. He holds it out, so she can look at it. The back is detailed with some kind of winged symbol."
no subject
"Paraglider," she repeats the unfamiliar name.
She reaches a hand out and tentatively touches her fingertips to the kite sail, wary about damaging it. It's made of sturdy material, and the colours painted on it are beautiful.
Then, the young girl snaps back upright, belatedly realising she hasn't even introduced herself yet. How impolite!
"M-my name is Kiperina. Thank you for showing me this glider. I've not seen anything like it before."
no subject
Probably thanks to some kind of enchantment, on account of the fact that a ghost gave it to him.
To Kiperina, he nods. Sure, he didn't mind showing her the paraglider. And gives his own name in return: "Link."
no subject
"It seems we can't leave this place. Is that what you were trying to do?"
no subject
"I wanted to see what's there."
no subject
"What were you able to see from up there?"
It's been so long since she's walked on the wire, she misses the view one gets from looking down that height.
no subject
"More gardens."
So, not anything exceptionally exciting. Except for the fact that maybe there were some interesting things in that garden. Like some vegetables or herbs or other plants that Link hadn't ever cooked with before.
no subject
It truly did seem like they were trapped in this place, though that didn't seem to bother Link. She's still hoping that there's an exit door somewhere, maybe where the Librarian doesn't want them to find. Could it be back in the main library? But that place is endless and always changing.
Too caught up in these anxious thoughts, Alia remains silent standing next to the young man. She grips her brass tool close to her like it's a security blanket, and it creaks a little in response.
no subject
This is probably a quest of some sort. If they can find the right puzzle, and solve it, they'll likely all get warped home then.
For now, though, Link starts looking curious at that tool of those. He makes an inquiring noise, while looking between her and the tool. What's that?
no subject
She holds out the repeating circle to Link, like how he showed his paraglider earlier. One can tell that it's a rather outdated instrument despite the slight polish it has courtesy of disciplined care by its owner. Attached to the circular brass tool is a telescope on one metal arm, meant to help measure lines and angles cross vast distances.
"I'm still learning how to use it. But perhaps it will be able to point the way to the exit." Though, to be able to do this, Alia would need a proper map of the space which marks out landmarks where an abundance of ley line energy has gathered. This sounds like a huge undertaking for an apprentice like her.
"Nevermind, forget what I said," she says sheepishly.
no subject
Maybe...maybe he should take some notes. This sounds like something that Zelda would be interested in. Right? He thinks she would be. At least, the Zelda from his memories would be. (He's still finding his feet around the Zelda from now. For a long time, she was just a voice he sometimes heard in his head.)
That's for later, though. Right now, he looks at Alia. She's unsure, for some reason.
"You need help?" He asks.
omg zelda *would* be interested in this haha
"In my time, not many scholars study ley lines, but my mentor showed me the beauty of it and I want to help her revive the field. It's complicated and a bit difficult for me to explain to by myself, or to even attempt to measure ley lines here."
She pauses as an idea strikes her. "... Perhaps we might be able to find some books about it in the library that could help, incomplete as they may be."
She waits, to see if Link would be interested in going back in to explore the shelves.
Zelda does always like learning about new interesting things!
"I'll look too," he says, standing up straighter. Like he's about to head off right now, and start combing through the entire library.
Yes, he is interested in exploring the shelves with her.
no subject
She's thrilled to have someone to accompany her in the library, though she tries to keep her composure. It's been a bit lonely exploring it by herself, and one of the reasons why she even came to the garden in the first place to have a change of scenery.
"Did you have any books you'd like to look for in the library as well?" she asks as they walk back to the library. It would only be right for this to be of use of Link to, rather than to make this all about herself.
no subject
It's during one of the times where he's just waited for her to catch up that he considers her question.
"...Recipe books," he says. He'd be interesting in finding any of those, certainly.
no subject
When he finally responds to her earlier question, she's pleasantly surprised by his answer. "You enjoy cooking, Mister Link?"
no subject
This place has been pretty safe so far, however. Link hasn't even see one bokoblin.
Then he nods; yes, he likes cooking. "And eating."
That was an important part.
no subject
"I find that the best part about eating is the company."
Even when the circus had been struggling, Alia had been content to eat plain porridge with everyone, together. It was strange to her, that Mr Kozlov had sent her away to the research center with promise of a better life and nicer food, when all she wanted to do was to stay. The smile on her face softens at this lingering thought.
no subject
Company is nice, sure. He likes it, as long as it's the kind of company where he can just sit quietly in a corner and absorb the atmosphere. But it's obviously not the best part.
"...And the food," he says. Insistent.
LOL
To get to the library, the two of them need to walk through the Lobby first, which happens to bring them past the kitchen. When they do, Alia can't help but look over at Link and ask, "Would you like to grab a snack first?"
Link has Priorities, okay XD
However, he doesn't move towards the kitchen. Instead, he reaches into the pack hanging from his waist, and pulls out two honeyed fruits from it.
He offers one to Alia. Would she like one?
(no subject)
Sure thing, we can wrap up here!
